Google Business Profile in Ghana: Get Found on Maps and Search

When someone searches “near me” in Accra or Kumasi, your Google Business Profile decides if you show up. Here is how to optimise it.

Laptop showing search and local business discovery

For local service businesses — clinics, salons, restaurants, agencies, and trades — Google Business Profile (GBP) is often the first touchpoint. A complete, active profile improves visibility in Maps, local pack results, and brand searches for your business name.

Claim and verify your listing

  1. Search your business on Google Maps; claim existing listings or create a new one.
  2. Verify via phone, email, or postcard — use a consistent legal business name.
  3. Choose the most accurate primary category; add secondary categories where allowed.

NAP consistency matters

Name, address, and phone must match your website footer, Facebook page, and directories. Use the same format for +233 numbers. Inconsistent data confuses Google and hurts local rankings.

Photos, hours, and services

  • Upload logo, cover, interior, team, and product/service photos monthly.
  • Keep opening hours accurate — including holiday hours.
  • List services with descriptions and price ranges where appropriate.
  • Add attributes (wheelchair access, online appointments, etc.) if they apply.

Reviews and responses

Ask satisfied clients for reviews via SMS or email after delivery. Reply to every review — thank positive ones professionally and address concerns in negative ones without being defensive. Review velocity and rating influence click-through from Maps.

GBP posts and website synergy

Publish weekly GBP posts for offers, events, and articles. Link to matching landing pages on your site with UTM parameters. Pair GBP with LocalBusiness schema on your website and a fast, mobile-friendly site — Google rewards coherent local signals.
